BREATHE *
Her innocence was grey
Covered in dust up to her neck
She was built from her bones
Her soul rings deep
a lover with a cause
withering in her past
He's sent to war on a hallow night
Silent and afraid
His breath held close to her
Through all the nights that await
And she missed him
She breathed him
He sent out his voice
But he doesn't know yet
She was built from the jungle
Her soul rings deep
A lover with a cause
withering in her past
She's sent out to war on a distant morning
Nervous and excited
His breath held close to her
But the jungle lay silent and waited
And she felt it
She breathed it
It called with it's wind
The voice from her heaven
A voice of the jungle
A soul that runs deep
A lover with a cause
Withering away her past
It sent out to her on a shadow evening
Determined and in love
The wind flowed through her veins
And she whispered to the jungle
Oh, she loved it
She's become it

DOES ANYBODY KNOW IM HERE
Alone and far away from home
A boy stands in a foreign land
Lonely is he and in the dark
He wipes away a tear
As he thinks to himself
Does anybody know I'm here
He's got a girl
Far on a distant shore
And he wonders
If she loves him anymore
Cold, so cold is the wind
And in the dark
He wipes away a tear
As he thinks to himself
Does anybody know I'm here
And then a voice says
Don't worry bout it, baby
I'll be right here
Don't worry bout it, baby
I'll be right here
(But he keeps on saying, baby)
Don't worry bout it baby
(Don't let me lose your love)
I'll be right here (oh, oh, baby)
Don't worry bout it, baby
(Don't let me lose your loving)
I'll be right here
Cold, oh, so cold is the wind
And in the dark
He wipes away a tear
Oh, as he thinks to himself
Does anybody know I'm here
(But he keeps on saying, baby)
Don't worry bout it baby
(Don't let me lose your love)
I'll be right here (oh, oh, baby)
Don't worry bout it, baby
(Don't let me lose your loving)
I'll be right here

THINGS I CARRY *
The things I've carried
A book of all my love
Carried in my pocket
My dear, you wouldn't have known it was there
The things I've carried
A letter from my past
Carried in my bag
God, it was as if it weren't even there
The things I've carried
A script written for pain
Carried in my mouth
Waiting until the moment of truth
You wouldn't have guessed
I wouldn't have told you so
The things I carry
A love for Mark Fossie
Carried in my hands
But dear, fading away oh so quickly
The things I carry
A necklace of tongues
Carried around my neck
It's like it's been there my entire life
The things I carry
Hope for my friends out in the cities
Carried in my heart
Lord, I hope they find themselves
Because I've found myself
I will never turn away

“They carried all they could bear, and then some, including a silent awe for the terrible power of the things they carried.”
― Tim O'Brien, The Things They Carried
"If the girl was nervous, she didn't show it. She seemed comfortable and entirely at home; the hostile atmosphere did not seem to register."
- Tim O'Brien, The Things They Carried

Because of confusion of the war's purpose and the beggining of the Anti-war movement, people back in the United States protested the war in rallys and peaceful ways. Many were attacked and jailed in an attemped to cease the protests. Monks would catch themselves on fire to protest the war and the violence that was happening around them

As of 2013 there are 58,282 names on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington DC. Names of all the men and woman who stood up and fought in the Vietnam war.
